A digital image is a picture, or representation of a physical object, in two dimensions using the binary method of storing information, such as in a computer, which is solely composed of ones and zeroes. The first digital images were produced in the 1960s and developed along with the United States Space Program and also used for medical research. Digital images also helped to advance satellite imagery, medical imagery and videophone technology.
